OPAL PLATINUM AWARD

We are so pleased to share that we have been awarded platinum for a second time with an overall score of 98%. This puts us in the top 1% of OPAL schools across the country for our offer of play.

 What is OPAL play?

OPAL Play at Cinnamon Brow CE Primary is our approach to outdoor play and learning, designed to give every child positive, structured opportunities to explore, be active, and develop social skills. 

Why do we work with OPAL?

Through OPAL outdoor play and learning, we use carefully planned play spaces and resources to support different interests and abilities. Children can enjoy a range of activities, from imaginative play and games to quieter pursuits that help them regulate their energy and emotions. Adults support play thoughtfully, encouraging kindness, teamwork, and good relationships.

We believe OPAL helps children develop resilience, communication, and independence while enjoying the benefits of learning outdoors. Parents can support this by talking positively about outdoor time, encouraging children to bring appropriate clothing, and sharing any feedback about what their child enjoys most. Together, we can make outdoor play a valued part of school life at Cinnamon Brow CE Primary.

Policy and Procedures

We use the guidance provided by OPAL to help us to provide effective play across school. We have a play policy that supports our approach to play and shares information for parents and carers about what this looks like.  OPAL strongly recommend schools to use the term 'safe enough' in their approach so that we provide the opportunities for children to take risks in their play.  As such we follow their approach of having a risk benefit assessment that supports us with this.
